Around 15 percent of Global Online Freelance Workers are from Bangladesh


The outsourcing / freelancing in Bangladesh is expanding day by day. Due to huge interests of the young generations of the country about this freelancing industry, it’s getting popularity. The professionals working as freelance worker in the country are really very skilled and they are working very hard in this competitive market. Also some of the steps taken by the government ensure to keep up with the global standard.

In the annual conference of the World Bank and the IMF (International Monetary Fund), a World Bank Group Flagship Report has been published named “World Development Report 2019 – The Changing Nature of Work”. The report says Bangladesh has total 15% online outsourcing workers of the world. Based on the report:

Bangladesh contributes 15 percent to the global labor pool online by means of its 650,000 freelance workers. 23 Indiez, founded in 2016 in India, takes a team-based approach to online freelancing. The platform provides a remotely distributed community of talent— mainly from India, Southeast Asia, and Eastern Europe—that works together on tech projects for clients anywhere in the world. Clients include the pizza restaurant chain Domino’s India, as well as the Indian multinational conglomerate Aditya Birla Group. Wonderlabs in Indonesia follows a similar model.

The future of IT freelancing / outsourcing in Bangladesh is vibrant. Due to some reasons that Bangladesh is getting popularity in this index are:
  • Low cost comparably with other countries such as India, China, Philippines, Sri Lanka etc. On an average
  • Bangladesh is offering 40 percent less price than others.
  • Bangladeshi workers provide good quality products and services at a lower cost.
  • The number of IT Professionals is increasing in the country. Every year more than 15000 IT Graduates and professionals are completing their IT degree and related courses.
  • To meet the global competence, the number of online vendor certificate holders such as CISCO, Oracle, Microsoft, Linux, Dell, HP certifications has increased.
  • Some steps taken by the Government of Bangladesh has helped a lot to keep up to date and meet the global standard. The government is inspiring people to get more involved in the IT field. The Government institutes BASIS Institute of Technology & Management (BITM) with the support of World Bank has established with a vision to be a world-class IT institute in Bangladesh for the purpose of enhancing the competitiveness of the IT Sector in Bangladesh by creating a pool of qualified IT professionals and quality certified IT companies. Some other program such as “Learning and Earning Development program” where more than 15000 freelancers were developed in the past years. Opening of ICT park in various district across the
  • Availability of manpower and low cost for developing infrastructure helps the entrepreneurs to invest in this sector.
  • Some of the bright IT professionals / Engineers / Graduates of Bangladesh are working in prestigious IT companies worldwide such as Google, IBM, Microsoft, Oracle etc.
  • Environment helpful legislation and relatively low tax rate than other countries.
  • Number of IT training institutes has increased a lot across the country even in the root level. This has a huge impact on growing the number of freelancers.
  • The European Commission has selected Bangladesh as an ideal destination for outsourcing.




Some of our other achievements are:
World’s leading Technology Research Company Gartner Inc. publishes the list of top outsourcing country every year. Their report says, Bangladesh is selected as one of the best countries for IT outsourcing. Bangladesh became 3rd in the list of top 10 on Upwork (formerly oDesk). AT Kearney has ranked Bangladesh 22nd in the field of outsourcing among 51 countries worldwide.

According to the ICT Division of Bangladesh, there are 650,000 registered freelancers among them about 500,000 are working regularly on the internet. On an average they are making $100 million annually which giving an extra fuel in the national economy.
